Critical Reflections Questions on Indigenous Ways of Knowing

Howe et all. (2021) focus on culturally responsive pedagogies. After reading this article, I realized the importance of culturally responsive pedagogies. culturally responsive pedagogies emphasize fully respecting and integrating students’ cultural backgrounds in the education process, ensuring that teaching content, methods, and environment are consistent with students’ cultural identities, experiences, and values. To integrate culturally responsive pedagogies methods into teaching practice, The first is to understand students’ cultural background, values, and personal experiences through personal communication or questionnaires, so as to better understand students and provide a learning experience that is closer to their background. Secondly, multicultural resources and content can be integrated into teaching and diverse teaching methods and assessment methods can be adopted. Finally, efforts should be made to create an inclusive learning environment so that every student feels respected and accepted. Joanne Brown’s concept of “all my connections” means to me that every student is deeply connected to his or her surroundings, including culture, family, community, etc. In educational practice, I will first design some course activities that are closely related to the students’ cultural background, such as group discussions, role plays, etc., to give students the opportunity to share their cultural experiences and stories. Secondly, I will encourage students to participate in various activities and projects in school and community to cultivate their sense of social responsibility and cooperative spirit. Finally, I will provide opportunities for students to explore their own spiritual beliefs, values, and beliefs, as well as to understand religious and spiritual traditions across cultures.

  1. It successfully emphasises, in my opinion, the significance of culturally sensitive pedagogies in education. It highlights how important it is for teachers to recognise and take into account the varied cultural origins of their students. I personally agree with the emphasis on using interpersonal contact to understand students’ cultural identities and experiences. The suggested tactics, which include creating an inclusive learning atmosphere and using multicultural resources, support my conviction that diversity and equity should be promoted in education. Furthermore, the goal of encouraging students to investigate their spiritual beliefs and participate in community service initiatives illustrates a comprehensive strategy for developing empathy and understanding among students.

  2. I strongly agree with your opinions and methods to adopt cultural pedagogy practices in the curriculum. The ways by which cultural activities can be inculcated in the curriculum strike me a lot. in my opinion, by understanding the cultural background of the student makes an educator to maintain a rapport with the student. The suggestions paves an effective pathway for the effective implementation of the curriculum in the education system. The reflection on Joann Brown’s speech seems to me very close. I too strongly agree in connection of students with the society and nature.
