In the 21st century, the students need to enhance life skills to be successful in their future since the world is moving forward rapidly along with the advancement of the technology. Princeton (2019) has declared that 21st century classroom acknowledge that the evolving nature of future jobs and strives to prepare students for an ever-changing “real world”. Students are required to be skillful in a multi-literate context such as collaborative problem solving, leadership, ethical decision making, effective oral and written communication, creativity and innovation, digital literacy, global and cultural awareness, resilience and perseverance to cope with challenges in the professional and personal life in the future.

Traditional literacy along does not support for the wholistic development of the students’ skills since it lacks the potentials of providing the students with opportunities to sharpen their skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and cultural and diversity awareness through authentic, engaging and equitable global education.

As per with my opinion, it is highly essential to adapt  multiliteracies into the curriculum especially in developing countries to prepare the students for future challenges in their careers paths. However, compared to the developed countries, the systems of education of the countries with low development index are mostly deprived of facilitating the students with multiliteracy in with the use of diverse technologies. The social and economic status of some countries are not developed to the level of providing the students with multimodality classrooms and provide them the exposure to enhance their potentials to meet with the 21st century skills and secure a better future for them.

  1. Your point of view regarding the needs of 21st century captivating my interest, as to survive in this dynamic world, knowledge of technology is really important. Multimodality, cam teach real-life skills to the students to enhance their capability to tackle the challenges of this modern era. You also discussed that some developing and poor countries cannot afford advance technology in their education, I also agree with you on this point, as in my country most of the schools still following traditional literacy as that schools could not afford technological education, which can create obstacle for the students to compete others on global level.

  2. I strongly agree to the points that you shared in the critical reflection part. We both are sharing the same opinion that the whole development of students’ skills is not supported by traditional literacy because it does not have the capacity to give students opportunities to improve skills like critical thinking, problem solving, and cultural and diversity awareness through equitable, authentic, and engaging global education. As educators, the overall development of the learner should be a prime important matter.
