There is a cut-throat completion in 21st century for students to grow. In the past, the main focus of the study was used to get theoretical knowledge, which was helpful for students to earn for their living. However, nowadays, a student needs to get master in real-life skills, as problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creativity, hands-on learning, cultural competency, effective written and oral communication, ethical decision making, leadership, information and media literacy, and personal responsibility and initiative, which could be taught by multimodality.

Traditional literacy is mandatory such as report writings and essay writings are still important to learn for students which are also helping students to think critically. I believe, teachers can make teaching more interesting by using the combination of traditional and modern literacy.

Teachers should definitely incorporate some new techniques to make the study effective so that students could be prepared to tackle the challenges as media literacy helps students in using digital platform, to evaluate online information critically, and helps them to communicate effectively at digital platforms. Apart from this visual literacy is fruitful as well to teach the students to create meaning from graphs and images.

Teachers should adopt effective assessment techniques to evaluate a range of modalities, including written essays, oral presentations, multimedia projects, collaborative activities, and digital portfolios. In my opinion, on-going assessment is really important as well as feedback, which encourages the students to work more on their selves to enhance their insights.

In Hazard’s opinion, identity and education are socially constructed because people learn about their selves and get knowledge when they interact with other people from diverse background. For instance, I am getting education in Thompson Rivers University, where I usually interact with other people, who are from different cultural backgrounds and from different nations. They are helping me to grow to compete in this contemporary era.

  1. In my point of view the above analysis provides a rich critical reflection on traditional literacy, multiliteracy and multimodality in which broadly discusses the positive learning environment in classrooms when multiliteracy is integrated by multimodality. I strongly agree that being teachers of 21st century we should be able to adapt with new technology to be used in the classrooms so that students get the opportunity of participating active and experiential learning process that help to enhance their skills and critical thinking in various fields of learning. Being an international student I personally experience the effectiveness of multimodality to engage in a multiliterate classroom which I did not experienced in my country of origin. I find that the self reflection provide an in depth analysis of the positive impact of multiliteracy integrated with traditional literacy with the help of multimodality.

  2. I am also having same opinion regarding 21st century skills for students to advance. The primary goal of study in the past was to acquire theoretical knowledge, which helped students make ends meet. But these days, students need to become experts in practical skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, hands-on learning, cultural competency, effective written and oral communication, leadership, media and information literacy, ethical decision-making, and personal initiative and responsibility. These are all skills that can be taught through multimodality. Conventional literacy, which includes writing essays and reports, is still necessary for students to study and aids in their development of critical thinking skills. I think that by combining traditional and modern literacy, educators may make their lessons more engaging. The ideas were clearly organized in the reflective essay.

  3. I stand positively with your opinion Habib, as you mentioned that a blend of modern and traditional teaching practices can foster learning among students more effectively. With the help of digital media, students can have access to information at an international level by which they can build strong communication skills, thus increasing their self-confidence. Moreover, interaction with students of diverse cultural backgrounds through a multimodal approach fosters collaboration and enhances the holistic development of students. Apart from that, the idea of innovative assessment methods using multimodality techniques sounds important for giving feedback which could help students to have up-to-date knowledge of their performance and how they can work on it to achieve success in today’s world.
