My understanding was expanded by the paper “Effective Indigenization of Curriculum in Canada and New Zealand: Towards Culturally Responsive Pedagogies,” which showed me how important it is to incorporate indigenous ways of knowing into the classroom in order to foster inclusivity and a sense of being part of something, value, and respect among students. According to Howe et al. (2021) teachers can ultimately lead the way to advancing indigenous perspectives, reversing decades of assimilation policies, evoking social change, and providing the bridge between government rhetoric and meaningful student learning. After reading the stories of all three authors, I learned that creating inclusive settings and incorporating Indigenous knowledge into curricula are our responsibilities as educators. Honouring heritage and promoting cultural pride are equally as important as imparting academic material. We enable students to respect and learn from a variety of viewpoints by embracing bicultural techniques. In the end, fairness in education, empathy, and understanding are fostered via culturally responsive teaching. I can practice ongoing self-reflection to identify any personal prejudices and cultural origins that might affect my teaching in order to incorporate culturally responsive pedagogies.

I was exposed to the idea of “All My Relations” by Joanne Brown during her talk on Indigenous Ways of Knowing, and it struck a deep chord with me. As per Joanne Brown’s discourse on Indigenous Ways of Knowing, the notion of “All My Relations” highlights relationships with people and all creatures and symbolizes the interdependence of all living things. We may integrate a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning by recognizing the interdependence of diverse disciplines, cultures, and views. In order to establish a link between people and the natural world, I think the idea of “All My Relations” emphasizes environmental awareness.

  1. After reading this critical reflection, I deeply felt the importance and necessity of culturally responsive pedagogy. It can not only help students develop a mindset of tolerance and respect, but also guide them to understand and respect the world from a multicultural perspective. The concept of “all my relationships” proposed by Joanne Brown made me deeply aware of the close connection between man and nature, and man and society. As educators, we should actively practice this concept and strive to create an inclusive learning environment so that students can respect and learn while also cultivating a sense of awe and responsibility for the environment. Only this kind of education can truly cultivate a new generation with a global vision and humanistic sentiments.

  2. She did an excellent job of clarifying.Joanne Brown’s talk about “All My Relations” particularly resonated with me. This concept highlights the need of environmental consciousness as well as the interconnectedness of all living things. The use of this holistic approach into teaching and learning can improve students’ comprehension of the world by linking many disciplines, civilizations, and points of view. I plan to include these into my classroom activities in the future.I wholeheartedly agree that adopting this form of indigenous wisdom can enhance education through the cultivation of appreciation, compassion, and deeper ties to people and other genuine groups.

  3. Thank you for articulating the response beautifully. I too agree that “All My Relations” stated by Joanne Brown emphasizes interactions between people and all species and represents the interdependence of all living things. We can incorporate a holistic approach to education by acknowledging the interconnectedness of many fields of study, cultural perspectives, and points of view. A holistic approach can bring about desirable changes in a student which is an expected result of education. I too believe that the concept of “All My Relations” stresses environmental awareness in an effort to build a connection between humans and the natural environment. We can use various teaching strategies to help pupils respect and absorb different points of view.
