Inclusion in Education

In the realm of education, inclusion underscores various considerations and strategies tailored to meet academic support and social-emotional requirements of students within mainstream classes. Generally, supporting neurodiverse learners, trauma survivors and students with disabilities requires educators to employ differentiated instructions including special teaching methods to accommodate the learning capabilities of all students (Webber, 2022). Also, universal design learning (UDL) can be implemented to ensure diverse instructional methods for inclusivity. Lastly, individual education plans (IEPs) are crucial to develop the personal goals and abilities of students with disabilities. Hence, this approach provides insight into learners’ capabilities for flexible and accommodative methods for students’ well-being and competency.

Specifically, LGBTQ+ students, are associated with several challenges in achieving inclusive education. There is low acceptance of this sexual orientation in the education sector (McBrien et al., 2022). Students and instructors who do not belong to the LGBTQ+ group view this group as abnormal and evil. Generally, this is a normal sexual orientation that should be accepted in society since it is a biological concern. However, educators can create a safer learning environment for these special types of students by enhancing diversity in the education sector. This includes considering their special needs in education to make them feel appreciated and accepted. Second, LGBTQ+ students experience high rates of bullying, which promotes stigma (McBrien et al., 2022). This arises from insults and discrimination where other students do not want to associate with the LGBTQ+. In this regard, the most appropriate way for educators to create a safer learning environment for LGBTQ+ is to ensure they support them fully through empowerment. This will improve their self-esteem and change the perception of other students on LGBTQ+. Therefore, this will create a better attachment in the education sector to enhance inclusivity for the LGBTQ+.

  1. Inclusion in education requires the development of individualized strategies that target the academic support and emotional and social needs of students within mainstream classes. Special attention is paid to the educational needs of neurodiverse learners, trauma survivors, and students with disabilities, ensuring that each student’s learning abilities are utilized through differentiated instruction. At the same time, universal design learning is implemented and diverse teaching methods are provided. In addition, personalized education plans are developed for students with disabilities to help their personal growth. For LGBTQ+ students, create more inclusive learning environments and enhance diversity education to support them, improve self-esteem, and change other students’ perceptions of the group.These are the things that educators need to learn all the time.

  2. I agree with the idea that inclusive education is paramount in addressing the diverse needs of students, including neurodiverse learners and those with disabilities. Implementing differentiated instruction, Universal Design Learning (UDL), and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) fosters a supportive learning environment for all. However, challenges persist for LGBTQ+ students due to societal stigmatization and bullying. Educators must actively promote acceptance and empowerment to create a safe and inclusive space. By embracing diversity and understanding individual needs, we can cultivate a more accepting educational environment where every student feels valued and supported, ultimately enhancing inclusivity and promoting well-being for all learners.
